2-HB was a public art installation in downtown Providence, RI that utilized defunct billboards to create a surreal illusion at scale. By virtue of the city rerouting it's major highway I-95 to the edge of the city, an array of infrastructure was left behind. 2-HB caught these billboards in limbo, transforming both them and the landscape.
We wanted to create an experience, not just an image. Having the pencil span across both billboards, piercing the landscape, created a connection between the viewer and the environment. The pencil is loaded with symbolism of process and creation but also points out the never ending construction that gripped the city during this ten year rerouting.
